meaning is ----

I wish to be what is needed.
Meaningless.
To stand
as a pillar of devoted love
willing to remain forever.
Meaningless.
I wish I could fulfill.
Meaningless.
To properly display
how much joy is brought
through word and deed.
Meaningless.
I wish the love I offer to be enough.
Meaningless.
To be a constant comrade
guiding, listening, confiding
and loving.
Meaningless.
I wish to eradicate sorrow.
Meaningless.
To squash the hurt
inflicted
from conflicting desires.
Meaningless.
I wish for understanding.
Meaningless.
To meet,
accept
and love.
Meaningless.

Take away the words.
Contradict and undermine their meaning.
But love can never be vanquished or dispersed.
Love is unconditional.
Love is everlasting.
Love IS.

  1. I'm no good at critiquing poetry, but...

The love you offer is more than enough for me, Grantu. <3 :)

  2. Grant,
Beautiful, the resonance created between the title and the last line, 'meaning is ----' and 'love IS'. I think you're right. Often, love is meaning. Meaning is love.

Interesting, to be a poet who calls for words to be 'taken away'. Where is a poet without wordplay? But what are words without meaning. Without love, everything (pillars, displays, comrades) are nothing, and not only words, but craggy rocks and old trees. Without a love behind them they do not mean, only exist.

But once there is love, may we not have our words?
So then, let there first be love, and let it exist, then let the words come after to show us where it is.

Your best piece in a long time, I think.
